Intel Atom N450 1.66 ghz, 1GB RAM, 160GB hard disk, Win 7 Starter

The onboard sound is 24 bit capable and sounds pretty dang good. Works great with ASIO4ALL. Get myself some good earbuds and I'll have a "Studio in a coat pocket" system. Amazing performance... I figured the little guy for a web surfin', occasional MS Officin', goofin' around machine but no... it's actually usable for a DAW on the go.

Pic: 18 tracks 24/44.1 audio, piles of FX (mostly Cockos) playing off a WD USB2 pocket drive.

Ain't it CUTE!?!?

PS My Tascam US-122L works fabbo with it as well. Just gotta get a couple BIAB 'snafu's' ironed out...

Yup. I want to upgrade to 2GB RAM and grab a hi-speed 32GB SD card for the onboard slot. Should be able to store and work on a few projects with this little guy without lugging an external disk around.

Decent performance for sure... I even forgot to turn off the wi-fi when playing around when I took the pic. No glitches... pretty cool.

Amazing how things develop. My lappie is only 5 years old and I considered it pretty good at the time. Looking at your spec the only thing that I have is probably a faster drive, a bigger screen, and a cardbus connection. I suppose I shouldn't bitch too much when I get the dreaded "buffer overrun" message. Time to upgrade.

I got a Toshiba NB205 for Christmas, upgraded to 2Gb of ram and it runs everything I can throw at it.  The >9-hour< battery life is incredible.  I went with the XP version; I'm not running anything Win7 until it's out for awhile.
(I've had no problem running any software - OpenOffice, Photoshop, even Blender and Reaper on it.)

I also got mine as a websurfing and writing but now plan to add it to my network as another Reaper Reamote VST slave...

I did a bunch of investigating on them when my son when to college last fall and got him an identical unit and he's loving his, too.

Yeah... this one has the six cell battery. I've used it probably four hours or so on battery... the "meter" shows about four hours left. It'd probably be even better but I ran an external disk off the battery for about thirty minutes... My "grown up" laptop won't run two hours on a full charge.

Pretty sweet...

After living with the Acer 'One' N450 for a couple weeks now, I am flabbergasted that anyone would give an iPad a cursory glance... never mind actually buying one of the damn things. For LESS money, I have a REAL computer that can run REAL applications, doing REAL work... What the heck would one even consider an iPad for? I giant, bloated iPod/iPhone hybrid? Screw that...

Jobs needs to pull his head out of his butt and start making USEFUL machines instead of freakin' toys... (IMO, YMMV, etc...)
